Crossfit Barcelona

by Mike on June 26, 2011

Barcelona is a city that has a lot to offer from it’s historic cultural sites and awesome food.  Among the popular tourist sites are Parc Guell and Sagrada Familia.

Taverna Basca Irati, Tapas Restaurant Barcelona Spain

Taverna Basca Irati – Tapa Restaurant in Barcelona, Spain

Also two of the best tapas restaurants in Barcelona are Taverna Basca Irati and Cerveceria Catalana, if you’re in the city defintely try them out.  (I’m not receiving any kind of kickback or anything like that, it’s just a pure unbiased opinion).

With this all said, Barcelona is one of my favorite cities in Europe, but when it comes to finding a Crossfit Affiliate, it’s a complete thud.

There are no Crossfit affiliates or CF friendly globo gyms in the city.

With it’s liberal clothing policy at it’s local beaches, one would think Barcelona locals would want to be in fit shape, but I’m a little surprised this city doesn’t have an affiliate.

However, Spain is not without any affiliates, there are a few CF affiliates in Madrid, which is a good distance away.

If you’re looking for a quick run in Barcelona, I suggest running along the water at the end of the Las Ramblas strip.

Other than that, enjoy the nightlife and the food Barcelona has to offer.  You’re probably on vacation if you’re in Barcelona.

UPDATE 10/21/11:

Crossfit is coming to Barcelona very soon!  I’ll keep everyone updated.

UPDATE 7/22/12:

This might be old news to some folks, but Crossfit Barcelona is here(site is in Spanish).

Directions to the place compliments of my friend Joanna at GlobalWODproject. All you need to know is find your way to a (red) L1 stop and head towards the Arc de Triomf stop. You’ll come out of the metro facing the Arc de Troimf, but promptly make a u-turn and cross the street towards the diagonal “Carrer de Ribes” a street lined with markets/cafes/bars on the left and an open walkway in the middle. Cars cannot drive down Carrer de Ribes.

Hi there guys,

I live in this city since 3 years ago…
I love the CF policy, but i´m getting desperate that you don´t have yet a CF gym/afilliate in this very touristic city.
If someone know something just send me an e-mail.

Cheers

Hey there,

I have been looking for some CF here in barcelona but everyone write the same, that there is no place to do the woods, if you know something joa please contact men or text me *********, if you know any gym with the facilities you can read the woods at crossfit.com and do it by your own, that’s the only solution I see.

Hi guys,

I’m in Barcelona on holidays & planning on doing some bodyweight WODs, however would love to know if there’s a gym where I can do weights, pullup bars etc. without scaring other patrons & getting kicked out for dropping weights!!

I speak limited Spanish which doesn’t help my cause.

Has anyone found anything or have any suggestions?

Megan

While no CF yet, good place to do a Cindy type WOD is down by the Olympic park (Port Vell) on the beach…I’ve seen locals working out on the bars/dip/push-up stands. Kinda like a Venice Beach thingee, yet without the barbells.

Hey guys, just for your info there is a new CF amateur club and facilities for likeminded crossfitters in Carrer Tapies, 7. Here is the map:

Try BeachFit Barcelona (www.beachfitbcn.com). It’s not exactly crossfit but a lot of the training is similar, using alll the different terrain and obstacles on the beach to offer bodyweight exercises.

What’s more it’s outdoors on the beach so there’s no better place to be.

@NIK: When does it open? Where is it located? Is it an accredited Crossfit affiliate?
It would be great if it was to open soon – I am also heading to Barcelona, and would love to start crossfit there!

Cheers!
